A big part of the Innovation Academy is to learn through experience and real world projects rather than through textbooks. Having visited Innova School and Interbank today allowed us to do exactly this.
Innova Schools seeks to rethink the education system in Lima through innovation. They deeply believe in education through technology. They encourage their students to learn through online softwares such as Khan Academy rather than depending on the teacher to teach.

Why? Because now a days, we are able to find the answer to almost everything online.
Considering that the school runs on a tight budget, they considered several things to maximize student learning. They had installations such as glass white boards, roundtables with attached plugs for laptops, and pull outs that acted as a room separator and a white board at the same time.
Nevertheless, after listening to the presentation given to us by the founder of Innova Schools, I felt as though the school was trying to be the best at many areas, rather than focusing on excelling in one or two.

Our visit to Interbank was so AMAZING that I wanted to work their myself! Every year, Interbank seeks to achieve something new, and this year, they wanted provide their customers with a "new Interbank".
They began by identifying their problem. That was that their customers visit to the bank was looked upon as a burden and a waste of time. They wanted to change that, and they did it through design thinking. They rethought everything. 1. Problem --> Customers hated to wait in line Solution --> They added comfortable couches, free coffee, brochures, and large T.V's 2. Problem --> Customers didn't trust the employees with their money Solution -->The employee desks were opened and made shorter, and each employee had tags on their desk that stated something personal about themselves. This created a sense of "humanity" between the customer and the employee. 3. Problem --> Environment was too cold, not warm Solution --> The rooms color scheme, floor, and lights were changed, and plants were added. What I most loved about Interbank's way of "running" was that they didn't reject any ideas until they had tried them out. Even an idea as small as changing the room's scent to see if it impacted a customers emotions when they walked into the bank were considered. Our visit to interbank proved how long the process of design thinking can be, and how effective the changes made can be for both a company and the customers. |
