After some thinking, I've come up with just the way to do so.
At first I had thought of linking to an NGO, and giving my customers the option to choose from 3 different organizations that they'd like to donate their money to. However, after talking about my idea with Mr. Topf, he made me realize that finding NGO's that I can really trust and be actively involved in is very hard. He suggested that it would be far better for me to look for a small, local group of young girls to support. Although my impact may not be as well recognized, the value that I will take away from the experience would be much greater than that of simply donating money and depending on an organization to do the rest.
Plus, if anything, I wanted the service to be visible to my customers. And by supporting a small group of young girls, I would be able to take pictures, videos, and write about my experience throughout the entire process. Where as through an NGO, I wouldn't really have a way of checking whether or not the money donated was being used in the right way and for the right reasons.
Since everything would be visible to my customers, this project would not simply push me to really keep track of my business's expenses and income, but it would also entail finding out how much of the money I earn can be donated considering the cost of employees, materials, and profit. I could make a short video showcasing what the project is all about, why I'm doing it, who we would be helping, and how my customers play such an important roll in the process. I could also create a specific page on my cupcake website with an explanation of the project and pictures of what is being done with the money.
This project put's a little bit of everything I love to do together. It combines my passion for business, my love for service, marketing and film, all into a single project! It gives me that opportunity to take my business a step further and have a greater impact in the community I live in!
